At the very best of times, organising a funeral for a loved one is incredibly distressing.
But now, in addition to grief we have added anguish and despair as we grapple with the fear and uncertainty of COVID-19 and all the restrictions that come with it.
With serious concerns for everyone’s health and a limit of only 10 people allowed at a funeral ceremony, sadly ……..
some families are opting to have no ceremony at all.
As a funeral celebrant I have the privilege of supporting grieving families and am always struck by the incredible release and sense of calm that comes about with the sharing of stories at the funeral ceremony. The healing that follows is vital to the family’s well being.
So if a family chooses to have no formal opportunity to gather with even a small number of family and friends to share a loved one’s story, celebrate their life and say goodbye, a painful void may well be created, making a healing transition extremely difficult.
There is a solution.
As well as my regular work officiating at funerals and memorials in person, it’s a privilege to offer caring and heartfelt online funeral and memorial ceremonies.
Just as I would do in person, I help you to put together a beautiful eulogy and on the day, I lead the ceremony and gently guide you through. With an unlimited number of online guests, we’ll hear your loved one’s story and have an opportunity to invite family and friends to say a few words.
A “zoom” funeral can never replace the real thing but it will create a space to acknowledge your loss and share your grief with others.
Grieving in isolation doesn’t have to be as lonely as it seems.
