During our lives, there’ll be ceremonies that are pretty much once or perhaps twice in a lifetime ceremonies. Weddings, funerals – these events don’t happen with any real regularity. Many of us do, however, find ourselves coming together with friends and family once or twice a year to celebrate cultural or religious holidays. These sometimes large and festive gatherings can be a wonderfully joyful experience or one that is fraught with difficulty. In my work as a celebrant, I find that even when organising a wedding there are family dynamics to consider and delicate sensibilities to nurture.
As we approach this
holiday season, let’s remember to find ways of celebrating in a way that is meaningful to us. Let’s take good care of ourselves, count our blessings and navigate our way
through our family‘s celebrations with grace, humility and a large helping
of a good sense of humour!
